How do I best care for my knitted polo shirt in wool?
Our most popular polo shirt is made from extra fine merino wool. It is thin, breathable and timeless in its design and fit. To ensure your wool polo lasts for many years, it is important to care for it properly. Wool fibres are self-cleaning. They have natural antibacterial and odour-resistant properties, meaning washing is rarely needed. Simply airing or steaming the polo shirt is often enough to freshen it up. If stained, remove the stain as soon as possible. If washing is necessary, always follow the garment’s instructions. Wash in cold water, preferably on a wool programme, and use a detergent adapted for wool.
Why does my polo shirt pill?
Pilling is both common and natural for wool garments. It occurs when the shortest fibres in the yarn reach the surface. The pills are easy to remove with a wool comb. Place the garment on a flat surface and use downward strokes to remove them. Repeat when needed.
How should I wash my polo shirt or t-shirt?
Washing your knitted polo shirt correctly is important to keep it in good condition for many years. For wool polos, airing and spot-cleaning are usually enough. If you still need to wash your polo shirt or t-shirt, keep this in mind:
1. Always read the care label first. Following the instructions is key to avoid damaging the garment.
2. Wash with a mild detergent, preferably one adapted for the material. Follow the instructions on the label. You can wash by hand or on a handwash/wool programme in the machine. Keep an eye on the temperature and never wash too hot. Use a laundry bag for protection. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, as they may damage the fibres and affect the fit.
3. If washing a wool polo shirt, do not wring or twist it. Instead, lay it flat on a towel, roll it up to remove excess water, and then let it dry flat on a clean surface. If washing a t-shirt, you can hang it to dry.
4. If ironing is needed, use a steam iron on low heat. For wool garments, place a towel between the iron and the fabric to avoid burning or damaging the wool fibres.
How should I store my knitted wool polo shirt?
Store your sweater in a dry and airy place when not in use. Avoid hanging it on a hanger – always fold your knitted polos and sweaters. If storing for a longer period, do not keep it in a plastic bag or in direct sunlight. Wool garments are vulnerable to moths, so make sure the garment is clean and dry before putting it away. Invest in cedarwood balls and place them with your wool polo shirt for protection.
