“Not just any sweater”
About our design philosophy, MIND IN OPEN AIR,and the challenges of designing sustainably.
“Not just any sweater”
At Holebrook, we strive to create garments that are loved, cherished and worn often, until they almost fall apart, and then a little longer. A sweater from Holebrook is more than something you simply like; it’s the one you choose again and again and again. Because it’s comfortable. Because it’s beautiful. Because you love it. Because it’s not just a sweater, but a companion in everyday life.

“Every garment should have something that sparks curiosity. Perhaps a small detail, a unique fit, or maybe a colour you completely fall in love with.”
Pia, Head of design
Designing sustainably
Creating garments with a long lifespan is not only about choosing the right materials and high-quality yarns. As a designer, there are many aspects to consider. It’s about thoughtful details, fit and function — about how the garments can be worn in different contexts over time.
Not allowing fleeting trends to dictate the process, but instead focusing on timeless aesthetics, is essential for ensuring a garment remains relevant.
Designing sustainably is challenging and requires both reflection and courage. It means daring to choose less, working more slowly, and valuing quality over quantity. It also means considering the entire lifecycle of a garment - from production to use, care, and the possibility of repair or reuse.
Ultimately, sustainable design is about responsibility. Respect for craftsmanship, for the people behind the production, and for the resources we share. When we create garments that last, we reduce the need for constant new production and contribute to a more conscious and sustainable future, where clothing is not merely consumption, but stories that accompany us through life.

“MIND IN OPEN AIR” –
the inspiration behind our design
“Mind in Open Air” is more than a phrase to us. It’s a way of seeing the world, shaped by the light, wind and sea along the west coast. It’s where we have our origins and what continues to guide us - a sense of freedom and presence that connects everything we do.*
It’s present in every sketch, in the yarns we choose, and in the way we think when we design. Our garments are created to provide warmth, feel comfortable and be worn for many years , but also to reflect something deeper. Garments designed not only for the shifting weather, but for life as it unfolds: unpredictable, imperfect, and beautifully real.
When inspiration comes from nature, it feels natural to also take responsibility for it. Creating garments that last, that are worn often, and that accompany us through the changing seasons is our way of contributing to a more conscious and sustainable future.
