How do I best care for my knitted hat, scarf or wool socks?

Our knitted accessories are made from sustainable materials such as wool and cotton. This means they do not need to be washed often, which prolongs the garment’s life. Wool fibres are self-cleaning. They have natural antibacterial and odour-resistant properties, which means washing is rarely needed. Often it is enough to simply air or steam the garment to freshen it up. If a stain appears, remove it as quickly as possible. If washing is necessary, always follow the instructions on the garment. Here is how:

1. Wash your hat, scarf or wool socks with a mild detergent, preferably adapted for the material. Wash according to the instructions. You can hand wash or use a hand wash/wool programme in the machine. Be careful with the temperature and make sure not to wash too warm. Use a laundry bag to protect the garment. Do not use bleach or fabric softener, as this can damage the fibres and cause the garment to lose its shape.

2. After washing, do not wring or twist the garment. Instead, lay it flat on a towel and roll it up to remove excess water. Then let it dry flat on a clean surface.

3. Wash in cold water, preferably on a wool programme, and use a detergent suitable for wool garments.

Why does my wool scarf pill?

Pilling is both common and natural in a wool garment. It occurs when the shortest fibres in the yarn reach the garment’s surface. The pills are easy to remove with a wool comb. Place the garment on a flat surface and use a downward motion to remove the pills. Repeat as needed.
