HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR COTTON KNITWEAR

By looking after your knitwear properly, you can extend its life by several years and reduce its impact on the environment. We really like that. Follow our advice on how best to care for and wash your cotton garments and you will enjoy your cotton garments for a long time to come.

COTTON AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The yarn used in cotton knitwear is made from the fibres of the cotton plant. Almost all of our cotton garments are made from organic cotton. This means that the cotton is grown and produced without the use of chemical pesticides and artificial fertilisers. It also means that the land where the cotton is grown has been free of chemicals for at least three years. Organic cotton must be certified to be called organic or organic cotton. All our cotton is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).

WASH COTTON

Cotton is a cool material that easily absorbs moisture. Cotton is also durable and more resistant to wear than wool, for example. As a result, cotton can be machine washed and ironed. Always read the washing instructions on the garment first and prepare the garment by turning it inside out, closing zips, etc. Wash your cotton garment at the temperature indicated on the care label. Our garments can be machine washed unless otherwise stated, often with the wrong side out. To maintain colour, use a detergent designed for coloured garments and a different one for white garments. Do not use fabric softener.

DRYING YOUR COTTON GARMENTS

Cotton can shrink in the wash. To keep your knitted sweater in shape, it can be stretched and shaped when wet. Most of our sweaters should be hung to dry and not tumble dried.

IRONING YOUR COTTON GARMENTS

If the sweater needs to be ironed, use a steam iron and iron it on a low heat.

STORE YOUR CLOTHES IN COTTON

A knitted sweater should be folded, not hung. Also make sure the environment is dry and well ventilated. If you need to store your knitted garment for a long period of time, keep this in mind: Store it in a dry place, never in a plastic bag or in direct sunlight. Also, make sure your sweater is clean and dry before putting it away. Invest in some cedarwood mothballs and keep them with your cotton knitwear.

About Holebrook Sweden

Holebrook is a Swedish brand with a focus on knitted clothing. We were born on the Swedish west coast and our first collection was knitted sweaters with a windproof elastic lining. Today, more than twenty years later, they are still part of our collection. Sustainability is part of our DNA, it’s reflected in our business model and in our brand strategy. Our down-to-earth approach to sustainability is based on wool, cotton, mohair and alpaca. Natural materials that do not need to be washed as often, which prolongs the life of the garments and reduces their impact on the environment. Our clothes are timeless and made for the seasons, not the trends. All our clothes are made in Europe by suppliers who share our strive and commitment to quality and sustainability.
